Breakfast Industry Showcase at Johnstown Castle
Over 50 businesses across Wexford attended the Taste Wexford breakfast showcase event with Georgina Campbell at Johnstown Castle, which was supported by Visit Wexford and Wexford Local Development through LEADER Programme 2014 - 2020.
On Wednesday 25 January, a Breakfast Industry Showcase was organised for some of Wexford producers and hospitality establishments - business owners, chefs & cooks, front-of-house managers at bed & breakfasts, cafés and hotels.
The theme of the morning was ‘Why serving a good regional breakfast makes economic sense for your hospitality business.’ A light was shone on the local artisan produce available to create the most talked about breakfasts.
"It can be a terrific USP for anyone in hospitality – and, being that last meal for B&B guests before paying the bill – it will sweeten the departure process and send people off in great form, eager to spread the word about their wonderful experience. People get to hear about a good breakfast, and they head straight for it."
Georgina Campbell, founder of Ireland's leading hospitality guide
The morning showcased an insight to why a high-quality breakfast using Wexford produce and surrounding regions can pay dividends to your business. Breakfast can be a simple affair with some key regional ingredients or an elaborate one depending on the business.
“When it comes to preparing a local breakfast, simple is best. Have your chef choose and work with local ingredients, treat them with respect and inspire your guests with the passion of what you do”
Georgina Campbell, founder of Ireland’s leading hospitality guide
As well as hearing from Georgina, attendees heard from Ali Honour, executive chef of the Imperial Hotel in Cork; Anthony O’Toole, International food and travel advisor; Seáneen Sullivan, cullinary director of L.Mulligan Grocer in Dublin; Jean O’Connell, Director of O’Connell Marketing; and Sharon Noonan, tourism and hospitality marketing consultant. Trudie Power, chair of Wexford Food Family and Paul Finnegan, chair of Visit Wexford, also joined the panel discussion on the morning bringing their wealth of knowledge and support for the food and tourism industry.
This was an amazing opportunity for networking between businesses in the area, there were speakers and experts from all areas of the hospitality industry. It was an invite only event and with the full attendance it shows the appetite of Wexford’s tourism industry and food producers to work together to showcase the best of Wexford’s Food & Drink and develop new food tourism experiences with Taste Wexford.
The design and coordination of this best practice showcase event was supported by Visit Wexford and Wexford Local Development through the LEADER Programme 2014-2020.
